Dr. Mahendran Moodley

During his post-graduate training, he also worked at St John’s Institute of Dermatology in London. He was awarded the prestigious Janssen Research Foundation Medal in Dermatology for the top candidate in the Dermatology Part 1 examination, and in 2009 he was awarded best presentation at the South African Dermatology Congress for his work on Goltz Syndrome – a rare genetic skin disorder.

He has worked as a Consultant Dermatologist at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and is the first South African Dermatologist to complete a Fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, Dermatologic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the UK. During this year he gained valuable experience in the treatment of skin cancer.

He continued his academic career in dermatology as a specialist at King Edward VIII Hospital and was a Lecturer in Dermatology at the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine for a year, before deciding to enter private practice in the beautiful city of Cape Town.

As part of his commitment to academic medicine, his focus is on all aspects of medical dermatology and skin cancer treatment.

Dr Moodley is a keen hiker and intrepid rock scrambler. He has a passion for wild flowers and has an extensive knowledge of fynbos and indigenous flowering plants in the Cape Floral Kingdom.
